Date: 13 October 2021

Time: 12:30 to 13:30 (Australian Western Standard Time)

Topic:  Iluka Case Study on Relinquishment Issues.  In 2015, Iluka embarked upon a journey towards relinquishment and in 2016 achieved regulatory relinquishment of portions of mine sites. The pathway for relinquishment in Australia can be unclear and complex, with multiple regulatory layers.  The relinquishment of mine sites in WA presents a significant challenge for both Industry and Regulators.   Melissa will present Iluka’s recent experience, some of the challenges encountered and share learnings.

Presenter Profile:  Melissa is an environmental scientist with 13 years experience in the mining industry, and has spent the last eight years working in mine closure and relinquishment. Melissa has worked on mine sites, overseeing environmental operations and compliance in Western Australia and has also consulted on a wide range of mine closure projects and environmental approvals.  Melissa has assisted in the development of Iluka’s framework for completion reporting, having developed completion reports for two mine sites in WA, which are currently under regulator assessment.
