We often hear generalised and bold statements about ‘starting with the end in mind’ and ‘integrated closure planning’ but there is limited guidance for how the maturity of closure planning should develop and evolve over time, particularly when faced with operational life spans for some mines in the order of over 50 years. In this presentation Darren will explore how the different elements of closure planning should be developed over time to optimise closure outcomes.
Darren is a Mine Closure Specialist with over 30 years’ experience in the mining industry. He is a Certified Environmental Practitioner and a Fellow of the Environmental Institute of Australia and New Zealand. As a recognised industry leader in the management of mine closure studies, Darren has managed and directed numerous multi-disciplinary closure studies for companies such as Rio Tinto, BHP, MMG, Iluka and AngloGold.
