Tenure is critical to post-mining land use planning in Western Australia.
The Land Administration Act 1997 (LAA) was amended through the proclamation of the Land and Public Works Legislation Amendment Act 2023 on 10 August 2023. The amendments include a range of benefits including the introduction of a new, non-exclusive leaseholder tenure, the diversification lease. Alison Gibson, Executive Director at Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage will be presenting an overview of the new diversification lease, including what broadscale purposes the new tenure can be used for (including mine closure rehabilitation and post-mining uses), and its interaction with the Mining Act 1978.
Presenter Profile
Alison works in the Land Use Management division in the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage which is responsible for Crown land administration and asset management services in Western Australia.
Alison is a qualified lawyer with extensive experience in crown land law and practice, property and commercial law, and native title law. She has been an Executive Director of Land Use Management since 2019 and is the lead for the Land and Public Works legislation amendment project including its implementation.
